LOVE STORIES: opening of the 13th edition of Photaumnales

Our French partner Diaphane will be launching the 13th edition of Photaumnales on October 8, 2016, in Beauvais (Picardy, France). Claude Goulet, executive and artistic director of Rencontres, will take part in the festival in the company of the Québec and French artists participating in the “Picardie-Gaspésie pour la photographie” project.

The Photaumnales festival will run until January1, 2017, on the theme “LOVE STORIES.” The event website has this to say about that theme: “In a tension-filled world that closes itself off more and more, our desire was to focus on opening up to others and to underscore how much the vision of artists is essential in building tolerance.”

For over a year, Rencontres has been developing a cross-residence and exhibit-production project between France and Québec entitled “Picardie-Gaspésie pour la photographie.” The project is coming into its own with the presentation of a collective exhibition joining the perspectives of the five French or Québec photographers hosted in residency on each side of the Atlantic. Quebecers Isabelle Hayeur, Jessica Auer and Normand Rajotte were welcomed for a residency in Picardy, while France’s Claudia Imbert and Ambroise Tézenas came to the Gaspé. Their works will be brought together during the Photaumnales festival at the Quadrilatère in Beauvais.

On the occasion of the opening weekend, on October 8 and 9, Rencontres will be involved in different activities.
