Residency in the Gaspé

Natacha Clitandre, Montréal (Québec)

In collaboration with the Centre culturel de Paspébiac, Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie is hosting the artist Natacha Clitandre for a participatory-art residency. From April 22 to May 5 she has been heading out to encounter the Gaspé coast, its population and its narratives.

In order to capture and document the evolution of the landscape, an invitation has been gone out to the people of Paspébiac and surroundings who’d like to share their experience of the coast and of the perceived changes on the human scale. These has been documented in writing, audio-recorded and photographed.

Jacynthe Carrier, Québec (Québec)

During her residency in the summer of 2019, Jacynthe Carrier will be organizing a participatory performance in the Gaspé taking the form of a live staging involving 30 people in the Bonaventure landscape, as a way of calling to mind the Gaspesian region and its inhabitants. Her focus will be on relationship gestures, those we make towards the other in our affection, in our encounters and our wanderings.

The artist examines through photography and video the various relationships of the body to the environment and the ways in which the region is envisaged and appropriated. In her works the urban or rural landscape is a land to be tamed, a recreation area, a setting for “the still possible.” In putting live portraits into effect, she accomplishes different types of intervention, where communities, objects and gestures gather in performative situations and scene-settings.
