The 2019 Photographic Book
in Carleton-sur-Mer

EXHIBIT

2019 edition

For its 10th edition, Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie is proud to be integrating a feature dedicated to the photobook into its programming for a fifth consecutive year. Art historian and critic Serge Allaire is acting as curator for this exhibit, entitled Le livre photographique (The Photographic Book).

The importance of the photographic book is already well established in major international fairs in Europe and the United States. For more than twenty years, a number of international publications and events have stressed its importance as both a form of expression and as creation in its own right in photographic practice. In taking a step in the same direction, Rencontres is seeking to ensure a visibility for the photobook, but also to awaken the interest of the general public as well as that of collectors in the value of the book as a form of expression and as a collectible item.

EXHIBIT AT RENCONTRES

2019 edition

The 2019 exhibition Le livre photographique unfolds on three levels. The first is devoted to books by photographers participating in this 10th edition. The second offers a selection of publications by Québec and Canadian artists from 2017 to 2019. Also, as in years past, to ensure the international dimension of the exhibit, a third level is devoted to a French publisher, Éditions Loco, co-founded and co-directed by Éric Cez. With his collaboration we present a choice of six recent works.

Once the exhibit concludes, all books will be donated to the Gabrielle-Bernard-Dubé municipal library in the town of Carleton-sur-Mer, with the goal of building a collection.
